Creating a new layout index

Defining and managing layout attributes

You can manage the layout indexes and the associated attributes using the Index attributes table of the Layout Attributes dialog box.

To create a new layout index

  1. If the Index attributes table is not displayed, click Show index table on the upper toolbar of the Layout Attributes dialog box.

You can find the index table below the Layout attributes table in the area on the right.

  2. Please note the following when you are working in a workgroup environment:
Lock the layout for which you want to create an index so that it cannot be accessed by other users. To do this, click Lock Layout in the Layout attributes table so that the symbol changes to Layout is locked.

Or, if the layout is already locked:

Select the layout for which you want to create a layout index in the Layout attributes table. Only one layout can be selected at any one time.

Note: If a layout is marked with the Layout is locked by another user symbol, the indexes of this layout cannot be edited at the moment. You have to wait until the user in question releases the layout.

  3. Use the Select type box (Index type column) in the Index attributes table to select the index type and specify a name in the Index column. The name of the last (= bottom) index is transferred to the Index column of the Layout attributes table.

Tip: If you choose a common name for the first index ("A", "a" or "1"), the program will name all the other indexes automatically.

  4. Assign the other index attributes as described in "Defining and managing layout index attributes".
