Replacing smart symbol, SmartPart

You can use the Replace Smart Symbol, SmartPart tool to find and replace individual smart symbols or SmartParts or all the instances of a smart symbol or SmartPart.

What do you want to do?

Replace an individual smart symbol or SmartPart with another one

Replace all the instances of a smart symbol or SmartPart with another instance

Note: You can replace smart symbols with SmartParts and vice versa. You can only select and replace SmartParts that exist in the drawing file or that have been saved to the Library palette.

Note: Whether the layer of the smart symbol's instance in the drawing file is retained or replaced with the default setting from the Library palette when you replace a smart symbol with one from the library depends on the setting of the Place instance of smart symbol option in the Options on Smart symbols and symbols page.

• If Place instance of smart symbol on current layer is selected, the layer assigned to the instance of the smart symbol is retained and it is only the geometry that is updated.
• If Place instance of smart symbol on current layer is not selected, the layer assigned to the smart symbol in the library is used.
