3D to planes

Module(s): Roofs, Planes, Sections + Landscaping + Urban Planning

You can use the 3D to Planes tool to convert 3D elements to custom reference planes. This is especially useful if you have designed a building as a complex 3D object and now want to design the walls and other architectural elements inside the object.

• The elements are converted directly in the document. The original 3D elements are deleted in the process.
  If you want to retain the original 3D elements, you must first copy these elements to a different document using Save As... or Copy, Move Elements between Documents... (on the File menu), for example.

To convert 3D objects to architectural reference planes

1. Click 3D to Planes (How).
   

   Activate 3D to Planes in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Architecture General: Roofs, Planes, Sections

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   General: Roofs, Planes, Sections

   Landscaping

   Urban Planning

2. Select the entities you want to convert to custom pairs of reference planes.
   

   • To select a single element, click it.
   • To select elements in a region, use the left mouse button to open a selection rectangle around the elements you want to select
   • To include all the elements in the current document, click All in the Input options or press CTRL+A. Please note that this option is not available for all tools.

   When selecting elements, you can use the Filter Assistant to apply a filter based on element types and/or properties. For more information, see Filter Assistant.

   The selected elements are converted in the current document.

Tip: You can assign fixed format properties to custom planes (pen, line, color) using the Options - Planes page - Roof planes, custom planes area. As a result, you will immediately see that the 3D object has been converted to planes.
