Updating smart symbols placed from library

You can use the Update Smart Symbols Placed from Library tool to update all the instances of smart symbols in the current document; the current smart symbol definition in the Smart symbols library serves as the basis. For example, you can update smart symbols in all the documents (provided you have modified the smart symbols in the current document using Modify Smart Symbol and saved them in the Smart symbols library).

Note: Whether the layer of the smart symbol's instance in the drawing file is retained or replaced with the default setting from the Smart symbols library depends on the setting of the Place instance of smart symbol option in the Options on the Smart symbols and symbols page.

• If Place instance of smart symbol on current layer is selected, the layer assigned to the instance of the smart symbol is retained and it is only the geometry that is updated.
• If Place instance of smart symbol on current layer is not selected, the layer assigned to the smart symbol in the library is used.

To update smart symbols that have already been placed

1. Click Update Smart Symbols Placed from Library (How).
   

   Activate Update Smart Symbols Placed from Library in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Change Bonus Tools Smart Symbols

   • Palette: Tools Change area in the following module(s):

   Smart symbols

2. Specify the path to the smart symbol and click OK.
