Definition of effective width

To define the effective cross-section, those areas are defined which are not involved in the load-bearing behavior.

In principle, the same principles apply as described under Define property set line/boundary line for reinforcement.

In general, a closed property set polyline is drawn around the non-load-bearing areas to define them. Geometrically, the cross-sectional part within the area described by the property set polyline is determined. In practice, the polyline can be defined directly along the boundary line of a cantilevered bracket, for example.

If the area to be defined for the effective width is variable, this must be controlled at the corresponding point via a parametric line (with the corresponding assigned variable + table) to which the property set line is linked.

Different separate areas of non-load-bearing cross-section parts (e.g. left and right cantilever bracket) must each be defined using their own property sets.

To define a new Effective width type property set polyline

  1. Select the desired (previously created) property set of the Effective width type via the property set menu of the cross-section in the navigation tree.

This property set is now active and all subsequent definitions are assigned to this property set.

  2. Click Insert Property Set Line/Boundary Line here.
  3. Click successively in a sense of rotation on all points of intersection of parametric lines or parametric points that form the boundary of the surface that contains the cross-section part to be defined as non-supporting. Alternatively, you can define points at any position directly with the mouse cursor, whereby a parametric point is automatically created in this position.
  4. Close the polyline of the boundary line by clicking the first point again to finalize definition of the boundary line.

Then select the desired direction for the effective width in the properties window of the property set (i.e. the direction in which the cross-section part within the defined property set boundary line should act as non-load-bearing).
