Labeling and analyzing SmartParts

It is not a good idea to label SmartParts using the Default label. Instead, use the Label style 1 Name, L/W/H absolute in the SmartParts subfolder.

To label a SmartPart

1. Click Label (How).
   

   Activate Label in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Architecture General: Roofs, Planes, Sections

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   General notes: Roofs, Planes, Sections

   Basic: Walls, Openings, Components

   Special: Walls, Openings, Components

   Rooms, Surfaces, Stories

   Stairs

   Frame Construction: Rafters, Roof Beams, Posts

   Object Manager

   • Configuration: Architecture Architecture Edit flyout
   • Configuration: Landscaping/Urban Planning Modifications flyout
2. Select the SmartPart(s) you want to label.
   

   • To select a single element, click it.
   • To select elements in a region, use the left mouse button to open a selection rectangle around the elements you want to select
   • To include all the elements in the current document, click All in the Input options or press CTRL+A. Please note that this option is not available for all tools.

   When selecting elements, you can use the Filter Assistant to apply a filter based on element types and/or properties. For more information, see Filter Assistant.

3. Click the right mouse button to confirm your selection.
4. Click Label style, select the SmartParts subfolder and the label style 1 Name, L/W/H absolute.
5. Click in the workspace to position the text; use the tools in the input options.
   

   In the input options click

   • Horiz
     to place the label so that it is horizontal.
   • Vertic
     to place the label so that it is vertical.
   • Angle
     to place the label at an angle.
   • Auto (not with Component Number)
     to place the label so that it automatically reflects the geometry of the selected component (important for window labels with label styles).
   • Resize (not with Component Number)
     to change the size of the label. Enter a factor in the dialog line.
   • Skip (not with Component Number)
     lets you skip the current element.
   • Go (not with Elevation Point)
     to automatically assign labels to all the selected elements. The start point for the text is positioned in the element’s centroid or, in the case of stairs, at the bottom.

To analyze SmartParts, you can use the SmartParts.rdlc report in the SmartParts folder. This report analyzes the same attributes and parameters as the label style.
