Importing SYM files

Using content

Program: Allplan 2016

SYM files contain individual Allplan symbols.

To import SYM files

  1. Download the file.
  2. Decompress the file and save it in any folder on your computer.

Tip: It makes sense to use the same folder for data of the same format.

  3. Start Allplan 2016.
  4. Open the Library palette.
If you want to see only symbols, click Filter and hide Smart symbols and SmartParts.
  5. Select the External path folder.
  6. Click Add path at the bottom of the toolbar and select the folder with the decompressed files.

Allplan automatically converts the data if this is necessary.

Note: If the data are from the current Allplan version, you can use Windows Explorer to copy them to a folder in the library.

  7. Copy the folders or library elements you want to use from the External path folder to a different folder, such as the Office, Private or Project folder.
  8. Double-click the preview or drag the symbol into the workspace.
  9. Place the symbol.
The input options provide a number of tools you can use to place it.

Saving and exporting SYM files

Symbols are saved as SYM files to the Library palette. Select the superordinate folder and click this folder with the right mouse button. On the shortcut menu, select Open in Windows Explorer. Copy the required symbol file and give it to your partner office.

You can use Save Copy as... to save the contents of the current drawing file as a symbol file (*.sym).
