Importing SURF files

Using content

Program: Allplan 2016

SURF files are Allplan surface files. They include textures, color settings and transparency settings and the values for resizing and moving the texture. When defining architectural elements and solids, you can select SURF files as custom surfaces or as surfaces of element colors. They are only visible in animation and rendered images.

Note: SURF files with textures do not contain the associated bitmap file itself. Instead, they include a reference to this bitmap file in a standard format. Therefore, make sure the bitmap file is in the design folder of the office standard (...\std\design).

To import SURF files

  1. Download the file.
  2. Decompress the file and save it in any folder on your computer.

Tip: It makes sense to use the same folder for data of the same format.

  3. Start Allplan 2016.
  4. Open a tool you can use to assign an animation surface to an architectural element or solid, for example, Assign Custom Surfaces to 3D, Archit. Elements.
  5. Depending on the selected tool, click Surface file, the button or Open favorite file.
  6. Select the folder and the file you downloaded.

Allplan assigns the surface file and copies it to the design folder of the current project.

Tip: You can also drag a SURF file onto a component.

Tip: Save new SURF files in the design folder of the office standard (...\std\design).

Saving and exporting SURF files

You can save all the settings of a surface you define in the Set surfaces palette as a surface file in SURF format by clicking Save as a favorite.
