Roof frame

Module(s): General: Roofs, Planes, Sections

How to create a roof frame

You can use the Roof Frame tool to create roof frames for gable roofs, hip roofs, barrel roofs and gambrel roofs. All the roof profiles can be combined as desired.

To define roof frames

  1. Click Roof Frame (How).
  2. Enter the outline of the roof as you would a polyline.
  3. Set the general height parameters for the roof frame.

Note: You enter the height of custom planes and roof planes as an absolute elevation, which is relative to the datum. You cannot define the height by entering an offset to the default planes.

  4. Select a roof profile and enter parameters.
  5. Click the edge(s) of the roof frame to which you want to apply the selected roof profile.
  6. You can combine and change the roof profiles (provided the tool is still active).
To modify the height of the eaves or change the roof profile on one side, for example, repeat steps 3 and 4 before you click the relevant side.

Note: Click Through Point to set the height of a point through which the roof profile will pass.
After you have selected Through Point, the Eaves parameter no longer has any effect on the current roof profile and pitch.

  7. When you have created all the roof profiles, press ESC to quit the tool.

Architectural elements delimited by the roof frame and whose heights were defined as reference-plane oriented will adjust automatically to the envelope defined by the frame.

Note: Custom planes and roof planes apply only to plane-associated architectural elements that are in the same document.
