Define shortcut keys

Customizing

You can use this tool to define your own shortcut keys for tools as well as modify the default shortcuts. The settings are user-specific and saved in the Registry.

To define a shortcut key for a tool

1. On the Tools menu, click Customize....
2. Select a category in the Categories area.

   Notes on categories.

   

   • The Window category includes the tools for controlling the display on screen (located in the border of the viewport).
   • The More tools with icon category includes tools that you do not find in toolbars when you are working with the default configuration.
   • The More tools without icon category contains tools for which icons do not exist. Tools from this category cannot be integrated in toolbars; however, you can define shortcut keys.
   • All modules are included in the Switch module category. You can define a shortcut key for each module. This is the quickest way to switch to frequently used modules.
3. If you selected the Create, Create II or Modify category:
   In the Modules area, select the program family and the module for which you wish to assign a shortcut key.
4. In the Buttons area, click the icon for which a shortcut key is to be defined.

   A gray border is displayed around the icon.

5. Enter the shortcut key in the Press new shortcut box.

   • You can only use the TAB and BACKSPACE keys in combination with the CTRL, ALT or SHIFT keys.
   • The CTRL, ALT or SHIFT keys can only be used in combination with other keys.
   • The PRINT and F12 keys and the CTRL+ESC, ALT+ESC, ALT+TAB, CTRL+TAB, CTRL+Numlock key combinations cannot be used.
   • When you define a shortcut key, it is also displayed in the ToolTip. (This appears when the cursor is positioned over an icon.)
   • Assigning a shortcut key in the Create, Create II and Change toolbars only applies in the module in which the assignment is made.
   • When you click Shortcut Keys.... on the ? menu, you can display and print a list of predefined shortcut keys.
   • If you have assigned a shortcut key in the operating system (e.g., CTRL+ALT+W to start Word), it has priority over the shortcut keys defined in Allplan.
6. Click Assign>>.

   The shortcut key is entered.
