Slice a structural member of the type Body with freely definable plane

The plane can either be defined by three points (docking points or global points) or by a point and a normal to the plane to be defined through this point

In case of this operation, the entire prism fully remains in the background, whereby the cut-off part is not displayed (however, but its docking points and sliders). In this way, at any time changes can be applied to the prism or the slicing plane which parametrically influence the result of the Boolean operation.

For interactively defining the slicing plane, the following options can be selected in the Property window:

Definition of the slicing plane

Docking points

Define the plane by three interactively selectable docking points

Global points

Define the plane by three interactively selectable (or freely definable) points which are stored (or rather defined) relative to the global coordinate system

Note: For defining the coordinates of the points, you can use all points geometrically displayed in the model such as reference points, docking points, station points, etc. You can define all or certain coordinates also numerically directly in the input field at the cursor position. Defined coordinates are marked in yellow and remain constant at the respective value during the further interactive input. It is important to note that the points are always defined fixedly in the global coordinate system (and their positions do not parametrically change like the ones of docking points, as they case may be).

Point and normal

Define the plane by two points

The positions of the points can interactively freely be chosen or defined, whereby the first point (relative to the global coordinate system) represents a point of the plane and the second point (relative to the first point) describes the direction of the normal to the plane related to the first point.

Regarding selecting and defining the points see the note above.

Snapping

In case of the options Global points and Point an normal, select/filter which objects should be detected (“snapped”) within the interactive selection

For details about this see Move.

To define a cutting plane

  1. Click the tool Slice in the task area Booleans.
  2. Click the body which you want to slice with a plane in the 3D View window.
  3. Select the wished type of definition (Docking points/Global points/Point and normal) in the Property window and define the points of the plane according to the procedures explained above.
  4. Interactively select the side related to the defined plane (see arrow directions) that should be cut off in the 3D View window.

Note: The definition of the Boolean operation is saved under the respective prism in the submenu Booleans of the structural members of the Bodies in the navigation tree and can also be edited there.
