Skew

Define skew (rotated) cross sections in structural members of the type Girder or Deck.

For this purpose, a master girder is created at the wished position (in the same way as a normal girder) which is not itself part of the geometric model. When creating a girder on the basis of a master girder, the wished skews/cuts can be defined at the begin and end of the girder.

Note: From the technical viewpoint, the master serves as an original girder on which certain geometric operations are performed which then can parametrically be saved on the resulting girder. Thus, for example, defined cuts at certain angles are not final operations on the 3D body, but can anytime be modified, by performing the operations on the master girder again in the background and saving them anew on the resulting girder.

Masters of structural members of the type Girder and Deck are not themselves part of the model. These masters are as well saved in the respective submenu Girders/Decks of the structural members and are marked with an [M] for “Master”. They are defined and displayed in a separate view window and can be managed and edited via the common submenus Stationing / Cross Sections / Variations in the same way as normal structural members.

Master can be used for creating structural members on the basis of the respective template with the tool Girder from master or Deck from master, respectively. The created structural members are generated in the respective menus of the structural members and are linked to the corresponding master. They thereby take over their properties as Stationing, Cross Sections and Variation.

Masters of structural members contain an additional column Conveyed in their submenu Stationing. Use the checkboxes in this column to choose those stations that should be conveyed to the structural member created from the master (Note: For this, you can also use the “drag and fill”- functionality - see e.g. here). Furthermore, it is also possible to insert additional stations in the structural member created from the master, whereas conveyed stations are not editable.

The assignment of the cross sections is always taken over from the master and cannot be modified in the menu Cross Sections of the structural member created from the master. In this menu, however, you can also define the cutting angles (see Master girder).

The submenu Variation does not exist for structural members created from masters, since variations are always taken over from the master.

Note: It is also possible to transform already created girders or decks into a respective master (option “As master” in the Property window of the respective structural member). In this case, the structural member is removed from the 3D model and can be viewed and edited like other templates in the respective View window. The other way around, it is also possible to transform created masters (not yet referenced) into structural members using the same option. In this case, the template is removed, and the member appears in the 3D model at the defined position.
