Designers require quantitative building data even when the building model is being constructed. In subsequent phases this information is used for different purposes: This ranges from quantity takeoff for invitation to tender to preparation of the schedule of rooms to cost calculation.

Quantity takeoff requirements

In order to analyze a building model, the following should be taken into consideration while designing the building:

• Three-dimensional architectural components
  These components return the mass for analyses. Additional information is provided by their properties - e.g., material, building trade etc.
• Assignment of materials and other attributes
  All the materials and attributes to be analyzed need to have been defined when entering the elements, or they need to have been assigned later.
• The definition of rooms
  Rooms are also three-dimensional architectural elements that can be assigned a wide range of attributes and additional information.
  Rooms serve as the basis for analyses of area and coverings (whether finish or special surfaces) and area calculations
• Evaluation and analysis in reports
  You can use Reports to run analyses based on a wide range of different criteria. Allplan comes with an extensive selection of reports; if these do not meet your requirements, you can also customize them to your needs or design your own ones.
  You can use Layout Designer to edit reports.

Note: For quantity takeoff in accordance with German building regulations, check that the openings are within the components.
