Roof surface

Grupo de herramientas Roof

You can use this tool to create a roof surface by entering any outline.

To define roof surfaces

  1. Click Roof Surface (How).
  2. Enter the outline of the roof surface as you would enter a polyline.
  3. The Properties palette opens. Define the parameters of the roof surface in the Format, Attributes, and Height settings areas.
  4. You can define separate settings for each edge or select several edges to assign them the same properties.
Select one or more edges of the roof surface.
  5. Define parameters for these edges in the Edge settings area of the Properties palette.
  6. When you select inclination, pitch for the type in the Edge settings area, you can define the slope or angle and enter a vertical offset of the edges from the bottom level of the outline of the roof surface.
  7. Define all edges of the roof surface one after the other.
  8. Select Esc twice to finish.

Note: You can find the Save as a favorite tool at the bottom of the Properties palette. You can use this tool to save the parameters of the current roof surface as a favorite, which includes the settings in the Format, Attributes, and Height settings areas. You can use Load favorite to retrieve these parameters and use them for creating a new roof surface.

Note: Whether roof surfaces are visible in viewports of the animation view type depends on the settings for planes in the Animation area on the Desktop environment page in the Options. Go to the General area and choose to Display planes by selecting the Roof planes, roof surfaces, custom planes option.

Note: Click a roof surface to modify it. This selects the whole roof surface and you can make changes in the Format, Attributes, and Height settings areas of the Properties palette. To change the parameters of individual edges, select the required edge by clicking it while selecting the Spacebar (see dialog line). Now you can also modify the parameters in the Edge settings area of the Properties palette.

Note: By means of Reshape Surface Element, Architectural Area (shortcut menu of a roof surface or Change task area), you can change the outline of an existing roof surface by adding a new outline to the roof surface. In doing so, you can use the Properties palette to change the parameters taken from the existing roof surface, such as the height. This works like creating a new roof surface. After you have defined the polyline, you can adjust the edges. The new outline is part of the modified roof surface.

Note: If you want to remove an outline from a roof surface that consists of multiple outlines, you can use the Delete Outline of Roof Surface tool. You can find this tool on the toolbar of direct object modification. Select the roof outline that you want to delete and point to an edge of the outline. By clicking the Delete Outline of Roof Surface tool, you delete this outline; the other outlines do not change. Select the Esc key to close the tool. If the roof surface consists of only one outline, the Delete Outline of Roof Surface tool is not available. To delete the roof surface, use the Delete tool (shortcut menu of the roof surface or Edit task area).

Note: It is not yet possible to add a roof surface to a plane model.
Neither is it possible to create circular shapes or gambrel roofs with the Roof Surface tool. Use the Roof Frame tool instead.
