Adding computers as file servers to the workgroup

In addition to the file server, more computers can be added to the workgroup environment. Projects and/or users can then be created on or moved to these computers.

Note: For running Allplan you do not need to add computers to the network or workgroup manager! The necessary tools are always available to you. In general, integrating more computers in the network only makes sense if the network in your office is very slow and spreading the projects among several computers is likely to speed up the loading process of these projects. Nowadays, however, these occasions are rare.

Please note the following before you add a computer:

• Spreading data among several computers makes backup operations more difficult. You need to apply additional software programs (e.g. ArcServe) for backing up data. Alternatively, move the data (projects and users) back to the server at regular intervals and back it up there.
• Moving a project and/or user to a workstation speeds up the loading process of the project/user in question. This could be a solution for slow networks.

Adding a computer to the workgroup manager involves two steps:
