Applying architectural component properties

Various modules in the Architecture family

You can use the Apply Archit. Component Properties tool to transfer properties of architectural components to other components of the same type. You can also modify the element-specific properties of architectural elements (analogous to creation method). When, for example, you click a wall, the system displays a dialog box for defining the wall parameters. The properties can only be transferred to other walls.

In conjunction with the possibilities afforded by the component axis, you can thus simultaneously convert several single-tier walls to multi-tier walls or change the thickness of walls, upstands or beams – in this case the component axis serves as a reference line.

Tip: If you want to modify only a single element, you can also click Properties on the shortcut menu (analogous to creation method).

Note: If you want to modify several walls in one go and these walls contain corner windows, the program deletes these windows after having issued a message to this effect. But if you modify the walls one after the other or use Properties on the shortcut menu of the wall, the program retains the corner windows.

To transfer properties of architectural components to other architectural elements of the same type

• You can use this tool with the following architectural elements:
  walls; upstands; downstand beams, upstand beams; doors; windows; columns; recesses, openings in slabs, plates; niches, recesses, slits, openings; joints; polygonal niches, recesses, slits, openings; lintels/headers, roller blind housings; rabbets, flush piers; slabs and roof covering.

1. Click Apply Archit. Component Properties (How).
   

   Activate Apply Archit. Component Properties in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Modify Architecture Basic: Walls, Openings, Components
     Special: Walls, Openings, Components

   • Palette: Tools Modify area in the following module(s):

   Basic: Walls, Openings, Components

   Special: Walls, Openings, Components

   • Configuration: Architecture Architectural Components flyout
2. Click the element whose properties you want to match.

   You can see the dialog box of the tool you used to create the element. The parameter settings of the element clicked are entered in the dialog box.

3. Change the parameters and click OK to confirm your entries.

4. Define what the program is to do with the attributes of the components:
   • With the New attributes option, the program deletes any existing attributes of the target, replacing all the old attributes with the new attributes. For example, you can thus turn a brick wall into a concrete wall.
   • With the Add attributes option, the program overwrites any existing attributes with the new attribute values, adding new attributes to the existing set of attributes. For example, you can thus transfer the brick type or strength grade of a brick wall to another brick wall.
5. Select the elements to which you want to apply the new parameters.
   

   • To select a single element, click it.
   • To select elements in a region, use the left mouse button to open a selection rectangle around the elements you want to select
   • To include all the elements in the current document, click All in the Input options or press CTRL+A. Please note that this option is not available for all tools.

   When selecting elements, you can use the Filter Assistant to apply a filter based on element types and/or properties. For more information, see Filter Assistant.

   Tip: The program automatically selects the architecture filter for the element type in question. Consequently, a selection rectangle you open finds and selects all the elements of this type.

   Note: If you want, you can still change the parameters of the element on the Apply Archit. Component Properties Context toolbar. To do this, you have several options.

   

   • Click Properties to set the parameters in a dialog box.
   • Click Match Properties to copy the settings form an existing element.
   • Click Load favorite to select saved parameter combinations.
6. To start, click Apply or right-click in the workspace. When you click Close or press ESC, Allplan quits the tool without applying the changes.
