Overview of options (Overview of options, Configurations)
Saving, retrieving and resetting options
You can make general settings for the Layout module in this dialog box.
General
When this option is selected, fills composed of several parts are divided when they are printed. This way, you can prevent irritating connecting lines from being displayed in printouts or PDF files.
Note: The setting you make here also has an effect on printing using the Print Preview.
Keep scale of layout elements when placing elements
When this option is selected, all drawing files of a fileset placed in the layout using Layout Element are given the same scale as the first drawing file of the fileset.
Adjust paper format (printer) when setting up page
With this option being selected, the paper format of the device is adjusted automatically when you define the format and/or orientation of the layout using the Set Up Page tool or the Set button to the right of the Set up page parameter on the Printer tab of the
Print Layouts tool.
Allplan tries to select as identical a paper format as possible. If you have not defined margins for the page, the program tries to select a format without margins. If formats of this kind are not available, the next largest paper format is selected. If a suitable format cannot be found, the largest available format of the output device is selected.
Tolerance for adjusting paper format
When you print layouts created with Windows drivers in batch mode, the program checks if the format of the printable area of the current layout (with the Format - Current setting) or the page format saved in the layout (with the Format - As in layout setting) is available as a paper format to the output device. If this is not so, the program attempts to find an identical format with a different name.
If this attempt fails, the program selects the next largest paper format. If the resulting larger printable area is within the tolerance range specified as a percentage here and you have selected the Similar format option, the program uses this paper format. Otherwise, a note is added to the print log or test log and the layout(s) in question are not printed.
Windows drivers are printer drivers delivered with the Windows operating system or by the device manufacturer. In Allplan, either Windows drivers or Allplan vector drivers can be used for printing.
Open the list box of the Allplan default printer option to select a large-format printer from the list of available printers. This printer is automatically assigned to layouts if the printer saved in the layout cannot be accessed. Regardless of the large-format printer set, the Windows default printer is used to print small-format documents (DIN A4/DIN A3).
The default printer is assigned automatically only in cases where this is absolutely necessary, for example, when you start printing. This is not done when you select the layout just for checking, thus avoiding unnecessary delays.
If you have not defined an Allplan default printer and the Windows default printer cannot be used, you are prompted to specify the printer you want to use.
In this case, you can specify the Allplan default printer in the Options, select a printer in the Print Setup dialog box or quit the tool without changing anything.
Layout update
Automatically update extents of layout elements and detailing windows
When this option is selected, the current layout is updated as follows:
Depending on the number of detailing windows, updating can take some time. It may be useful to disable this option so that plotting is faster. But don’t forget to enable this option again when you modify a detailing window.
However, the contents of the documents displayed are always up-to-date, regardless of this option.
Temporarily update extents of detailing windows when printing
When this option is selected, detailing windows placed in all the selected layouts are updated automatically when printing (in batch mode, too). This is only temporary; in other words, the updated detailing windows are not saved in the respective layouts.
Depending on the number of detailing windows, updating can take some time. It may be useful to clear this option so that printing is faster. But don’t forget to select this option again when you modify a detailing window.
However, the contents of the documents displayed are always up-to-date, regardless of this option.
Note: This option applies to the detailing window seen as an object. For example, detailing windows are updated when you add, modify, move or delete them. The contents of detailing windows, on the other hand, are always up-to-date (if you have already placed them in the layout).
