Transferring the ‘From block’ structure
'From block' means that an object assumes the color or line type of the block to which it belongs.
- The 'From block' structure is only transferred (both when importing and exporting) when the FromBlock option is disabled in the Interfaces Options (ODX), Advanced Settings tab, Explode compounds area.

This setting defines how blocks that were inserted in .dwg or .dxf files several times with different settings are transferred (a DXF block containing a table, for example, can be green dashed at the first block insert and red at the second). MicroStation does not provide an equivalent setting.
- Do not resolve ”FromBlock” (= check box disabled): the block structure is retained, and different colors and line types are not used. In other words, a block that has been inserted twice in the .dxf file becomes a smart symbol with two instances. The block number and name are retained, while colors and line types can be altered.
- Resolve ”FromBlock” (= check box enabled): the colors and line types of the elements are used, and the block structure is modified. In other words, a block that has been inserted twice in the .dxf file becomes two smart symbols with one instance each. All the colors and line types match those of the original, while the block number increases and the block names are modified.
