Associative Dimensioning

Associative dimensioning means that the dimensioning and the dimensioned components are associated in such a way that the dimension string and its text will automatically update to reflect any changes made to the size or position of the component.

With associative dimensioning, so-called association points are created on the dimensioned points.

Tip: You can use Change Ref Points to change the position of reference points later.

Note: These points are only visible when you activate the Change Ref Points tool.

(A) Reference points

In order for a dimension string to update automatically when 'its' element is modified, the following requirements must be met:

• When working with drawing files: The dimension lines and the dimensioned component must be in the same drawing file or the drawing file with the dimensions must be open in edit mode when modifications are made.
  When working with layers: The layer containing the dimensioning must be visible.
• When modifying a dimensioned element, the association points also have to be selected.
