Tangent

Module(s): Draft + Site Plan

You can use the Tangent tool to draw a tangent on a circle or an arc.

To draw a tangent

1. Click Tangent (How).
   

   Activate Tangent in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Draft

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   Draft

   Site Plan

2. Click the circle or curve on which the tangent is to be drawn.
3. Define the point where the tangent is to originate in one of the following ways:
   • To draw the tangent from any point, click the point. If this point is on a circle, arc or line, you need to select the Element option in the Point snap area of the Point snap options.
     

     • Click the point.
     • Align to points using the linear snap function and click the point.
     • Define the point by making entries in the dialog line.

     Tip: The shortcut menu and dialog line provide tools and options to assist you in the process of entering points. For more information, see Tools and Options.

   • To draw the tangent as a line perpendicular to another line, click the line. In this case, make sure that the Element option in the Point snap area of the Point snap options is not active.
   • To draw the tangent on a second circle, click the circle.

     Note: Make sure that the Element option in the Point snap area of the Point snap options is not active.

     (B) Circle

   • To define the point where the tangent meets the circle, click the point through which the tangent is to pass and then enter the length of the tangent.

Note: If several different alternatives are available, these are displayed as construction lines. You can select one of the alternatives by clicking.
