Calculating anchorage and overlap length

Bending shape-specific parameters + Parameters for circular reinforcement

Based on the parameters you have defined and the standard you have selected in the options, Allplan calculates the anchorage length and overlap length and displays the ´concrete strength grade set, the selected steel grade for bar reinforcement and the current diameter (these parameters are for information only).

To define the anchorage length

  1. Use Application to specify the type of anchorage length.

Depending on the selection, Allplan calculates lb,net, lb,dir or lb,ind.

  2. Specify the Req.'d As / Existing As ratio and the Condition of bond.
  3. Choose whether Allplan is to calculate the anchorage length for a Tension bar or a Compression bar.

You cannot define hooks when you select Compression bar for the stress type.

  4. When set to Tension bar, you can use hooks to shorten the anchorage length. Specify the Hook angle and Hook length. The program automatically enters the default value of the hook length when you change the diameter or mesh type.
  5. Select the number of welded cross bars in the area of the anchorage length.

In compliance with the standards, you cannot apply hooks when you create two or more welded cross bars. Therefore, the Hook setting is deactivated automatically when you select min. 2. Furthermore, Allplan changes the min. 2 setting to 1 when you enable Hook.

The basic dimension of the anchorage length and the required anchorage length are displayed for information.

  6. Click OK to confirm the settings.

To define the overlap length

  1. Specify the Req.'d As / Existing As ratio, the Bars without longitudinal stagger and the Condition of bond.
  2. Choose whether Allplan is to calculate the overlap length for a Tensile splice or a Compressive splice.

When you select Compressive splice for the stress type, the entry you make for Bars without longitudinal stagger has no effect on the overlap length. Furthermore, you cannot define hooks.

  3. When set to Tensile splice, you can use hooks to shorten the overlap length for bar shapes.. Specify the Hook angle and Hook length. The program automatically enters the default value of the hook length when you change the diameter or mesh type.

The basic dimension of the anchorage length and the overlap length are displayed for information.

  4. Click OK to confirm the settings.
