The following section is a rough guideline for configuring the network in your office.
- Start by creating all the users in your network. For this, use the Computer Management administrative tool. The procedure varies depending on the operating system (workstation or server).
- Spend some time thinking about which users are to be granted access rights to which data and peripheral devices. Set up groups and assign users to these groups with the help of Computer Management. These groups are irrelevant for the CAD network as CAD users are set up separately.
Groups considerably facilitate the process of assigning and managing rights; this is especially true when you want to add new users. - Decide on the computer where you want to store the common data, which is available to all users in your network. Create a folder and share it. Please note the special features relevant to sharing folders when Workgroup Manager is installed.
- If you want to use the computer that is to serve as the file storage as a CAD workstation, too, begin by installing Allplan 2016 on this computer. During installation, specify the folder previously created as the central file storage and, if necessary, enable the Workgroup Manager option.
- Install Allplan 2016 on all the other workstations; make sure that you specify the same folder as the central file storage.
If you have not installed Workgroup Manager, you are now finished with network installation. Continue with step 10.
If you have installed Workgroup Manager, do the following:
- Share the \Nem folder on all the computers where you want to store projects in the local data folders.
Tip: If you do not want to share the entire Nem folder for all users, you can also create and share a folder with the Prj and Usr subfolders.
- Start the Services application on the computer with the central file storage folder and select the Workgroup Manager menu.
- If necessary, you can now add more computers to Workgroup Manager using the Administrate projects and computers option. Please note that the corresponding folder on the computer you want to add must be shared.
- Use the User Administration option to create users and specify which user is to access which computer. Make sure that the Allplan user names you assign are in compliance with ISO 9660.
When you have finished setting up all the users, you can start Allplan. - Configure the peripheral devices like printers, scanners and so on and, if necessary, assign access rights.
Start Allplan 2016 and set the office standard.Note: When users log on to the operating system by entering their user names, they are automatically logged on to Allplan 2016, too.
