Create a line by relative factor

Inhalt

Index

Create a parametric line between two existing parametric lines/points, whereby the distance (or angle) is defined by a ratio value.

This tool is applicable for parallel lines as well as for lines forming an angle. Further, instead of parametric lines also parametric points can be used. When combining a line and a point, a line parallel to the existing line is created and the distance is measured along the normal on the line through the point. When combining two points the new line is created normally to line connecting the two points and the distance is measured on this line.

The factor is derived from the ratio value between the position of the line to be created measured from the first object and the distance/angle between the two objects (value between 0 and 1).

To create a line by relative factor between to lines/points

  1. Click Line by relative factor.
  2. Click the first parametric line or the parametric point.
  3. Click the second parametric line or the parametric point.
  4. Move the mouse in the direction of the desired position of the line to be created and input the desired relative factor in the appearing text box. Alternatively, you can define the position directly with the mouse cursor. Confirm the input in both cases with the enter key or the left mouse button.
  5. Directly create further lines by relative factor (back to 2.) or quit the tool with ESC.

Note: When creating the lines with respect to their position/orientation, the “directions” of the selected reference lines are decisive. If, due to this, the line created is not positioned as desired (in the acute or obtuse angle of intersecting lines or maybe normally to parallel lines of opposite directions), edit the created line and change the direction of the reference lines in the Property window.
