Calculating and saving sections

Tools: Clipping Path

Before you can place a section in a layout (document), you must convert the section of the 3D model to a 2D image and save it to a separate drawing file/document. To do this, use Hidden-Line Image, Wireframe. To do this, you can combine plans and 2D drawings into layouts.

Tip: Creating sections in the building structure

To activate a section

• Allplan displays and calculates sections only if you have already been defined the Clipping Path.

1. Click Section Display (How) in the border of the viewport.
   

   Activate Section Display in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: View
   • Toolbar List box on Viewport toolbar
2. Enter a section identifier or click the clipping path.

   The program displays the section as a wireframe model; hidden components are still visible.

   

3. Select the Hidden view type at the bottom of the viewport.

   The program displays the section as a realistic 2D image.

   

To activate and save a section

1. Click Hidden-Line Image, Wireframe (How) and select Hidden-Line Image.
   

   Activate Hidden Line Image, Wireframe in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Tools

   • Title bar: Quick Access Toolbar View
2. The Hidden Line Image in Destination Document palette opens. Define the parameters for the hidden-line image. Do not forget to define display parameters in the Formats palette.
3. Click OK to confirm.

   The program displays the result in a separate window.

   You can see the following note: Close viewport with result to continue.
   Close the viewport with the hidden-line image to save this 2D image to a separate document or display the document with the components again.

4. Click OK to confirm the note.

   Tip: The 1 Viewport setting makes it difficult for you to tell the various windows apart. Check the name on the title bar - [Result of hidden-line calculation, wireframe calculation date time] - indicating the window with the hidden-line image.

5. Close the window with the result by clicking the X in the upper-right corner.

   The program prompts you to save the result of the calculation.

6. Click yes.
7. To save the result, do the following:
   • When you work with a custom NDW file, enter the name and path for the new file and click Save.
   • When you work with a drawing file, the Select destination drawing file dialog box opens.
     Select the check box of the required drawing file and click OK.
   • You can also save the result of a drawing file as an NDW file by clicking Save As... (How). However, you cannot use Update Hidden-Line Image to update this result.
     

     Activate Save As... in one of the following ways

     • Menu bar: File

     The section is saved as a 2D drawing in the selected drawing file or document.

8. Open the drawing file or document to view the section.

   Tip: If the document looks empty, switch to Plan View!

Note: When you save a hidden-line image in a destination drawing file, the layer of the intersected elements automatically applies to the new elements in the hidden-line image. The "from layer" properties will be considered too.

Note: Some practical values:
- Thick line for intersected area border 10
- Normal component lines 5
- Room Finish Lines 3
- Surface elements 0
