Creating and modifying composite elements

You can use this tool to create composite elements based on one or more elements. Composite elements may not have gaps and they cannot branch. If these criteria are met, you can combine individual composite elements to produce a new, discrete one, or you can enhance a composite element by adding new elements. All associated element labels, stationing and parallel lines are deleted in the process.

Note: The program creates the composite element more quickly when you place the reference point roughly in the middle of the new composite element. The direction of the composite element is defined by the minimum x value (if equal, the y value) of the reference element, or the start point of an existing composite element.

To create a new composite element

1. Click Composite Element (How).
   

   Activate Composite Element in one of the following ways

   • Actionbar:Change task area

   • Menu bar: Create Advanced Draft

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   Advanced Draft

   Site Plan

2. Enter the name of the composite element.
3. Click the reference element for the new composite element.
4. Select the individual elements or the composite elements you want to join.
   

   • To select a single element, click it.
   • To select elements in a selection rectangle, hold down the left mouse button and open a selection rectangle around the elements you want to select.
   • Some tools allow you to select all elements in the current document by clicking All in the input options or pressing CTRL+A.

   When selecting elements, you can use filters, which allow you to filter by element type or property. For more information, see Using filters.

   Tip: When you right-click in the workspace twice, Allplan selects all connected elements.

To add elements to a composite element

1. Click Composite Element (How).
2. Click the reference element in the composite element.

   The name of this composite element is used for the new element.

3. Select the elements to be added.

Notes:

• All the labels etc. added to the composite element are saved to the same file as the composite element.
• If you do not have the Site Plan task area, you cannot enter a name for the composite element. No station zero point will be generated.
• The settings for pen, line and color are taken from the Properties palette (unless you have selected the Create composite element with fixed format properties setting in the Options - Terrain page - Site plan and advanced draft area). When this setting is selected, the program only takes the pen from the ‘Properties’ palette.
• Composite elements cannot be edited using the Copy and Resize and Resize tools. Therefore, you cannot select them.
