Select Connected to connect all open viewports, displaying boundary lines between the viewports. When you change the size of a viewport, all the other viewports adapt automatically. New viewports will be fitted into the arrangement.

When the Connected option is not selected, you can place the viewports independently of each other. The boundaries of the viewport are indicated by the corner symbols , , and ; drag these corner symbols to change the size of the viewport. You can move each viewport separately; the viewports can even overlap. New viewports are placed on top of the existing ones.
