Domed Roof-Light SmartPart

Task area Opening Elements + Interior Finish

You can use this tool to create SmartParts for round and rectangular domed roof-lights.

SmartParts are parametric Allplan CAD objects that act according to their own inherent logic, which is independent of the CAD system. Parametric information is controlled by a script, which is attached directly to the object.

You can place these SmartParts in rectangular openings in slabs or roofs. SmartParts adapt to these outlines.

Allplan displays the SmartPart you are modeling in real time. You can save the finished SmartPart as an smv file by using the Save as a favorite tool. You can also save the SmartPart in a folder of the Library palette.

Notes: You can edit SmartParts using handles (graphic modification) or a dialog box (alphanumeric modification). To modify SmartParts graphically, you can use the Modify SmartPart using Handles tool, which you can find on the shortcut menu of the SmartPart.
You can also use handles and dialog box in combination. Double-click the SmartPart to open the properties palette of the SmartPart and to display the handles.

To model a domed roof-light SmartPart

  1. Click Domed Roof-Light SmartPart (How).

The Elements tab of the Domed Roof-Light SmartPart opens.

  2. In the list box at the top of the palette, you can specify whether you want to create a SmartPart for a Rectangular Domed Roof-Light or a Round Domed Roof-Light.

The contents of the Elements tab change with the shading element you select.

Click here for detailed information on the settings you can define for Rectangular Domed Roof-Light SmartParts.

Click here for detailed information on the settings you can define for Round Domed Roof-Light SmartParts.

Note: When you slowly move the cursor horizontally across the parameters, it changes to a double-headed arrow as soon as you reach the area between the parameter names and the boxes. You can now change the width of this area.

  3. You can now start modeling the SmartPart.

The SmartPart is attached at its drop-in point to the crosshairs. As soon as you point to an opening in a slab or roof, the preview adapts to the outline of this opening.

  4. To place the SmartPart, click within an opening.

To place the element, use the tools in the input options.
You can specify an angle of rotation in the dialog line. Allplan then places the SmartPart at this angle.

When you place the SmartPart, an arrow appears in the middle of the SmartPart, indicating the outside of the SmartPart. Depending on the position of the SmartPart within the opening, you can see another symbol, indicating that the SmartPart will be mirrored. You can select the size and color of these symbols with the Size of CursorTips for snap points and Color of CursorTips options ( Options (Quick Access Toolbar) - Point snap page - Point snap representation area.
  5. Select Esc to finish.

A copy of the SmartPart you selected last is attached to the crosshairs.

  6. Place more SmartParts or select Esc to close the tool.

Note: Double-click the SmartPart to modify it. You can use the palette or handles.
Would you like to analyze domed roof-light SmartParts? No problem! Select Reports and choose the Domed roof-lights.rdlc file. This report lists domed-roof lights by shape (rectangular or round), including curb heights, dome heights and dimensions of associated unfinished openings.
