Installation in a network

In a network installation, in addition to the local program folder on the respective workstation computer, there is a central file storage folder on the data server, via which all users can access the office standard and all projects. If there is no dedicated server, you can use a Allplan workstation as the data server.

In terms of organizing and managing Allplan 2022 on the network, after installation you can choose between operating with or without the Workgroup Manager.

Network operation without Workgroup Manager (Simple network)

With network operation without a Workgroup Manager, only one user can work on the same project at any time. If a project is opened by a user, it will be locked for other users for this time. The other user users can work on a different project.

Advantages

• Common office standard and project-specific data
• Each user can see all projects
• Data can be backed up easily and quickly

The following must be considered

• A project cannot be accessed by several workstations at the same time
• It is not possible to make a distinction between an Allplan user and an Allplan administrator.
• All the workstations must running the same Allplan version

Network operation with Workgroup Manager

In network operation with Workgroup manager, several users can access and edit a project simultaneously. It is also possible to store projects and user folders both on the data server and on all workstations included in the Workgroup Manager.

A folder must be created and released for this purpose on the workstations on which projects or user folders are to be stored. In addition, this folder requires a subfolder. You can then add these workstations to the network by using Workgroup Manager.

Advantages

• Several users can work on the same project at the same time. A drawing file can be made current or opened in edit mode by one user and it can be opened in reference mode by several users. Documents that are being edited can serve as the basis for designing; this is especially useful if you work in a team.
• The Allplan administrator can define access rights for the individual projects.
• Projects and user folders can be on any workstation on the network (if the workstation was added to Workgroup Manager).

The following must be considered

• Managing tasks in Workgroup Manager requires an administrator and some experience.
• A special license is required.
• All the workstations must be running the same Allplan version.
