Smart Window and Door Symbols

You can use this tool to quickly and easily create your own smart symbols for openings of any shape or size. You can model smart window symbols and smart door symbols step by step in a dialog box.

So you create its components one after the other: You can choose from: universal frame, door frame (with/without strip), horizontal elements, vertical elements, muntins, vertical and horizontal dividers, a catalog with door leaves and casements, door leaf, a selection of symbols for door leaves, two catalogs with predefined shapes.

Each element is created with . You can use to discard elements you have already created.

A 3D preview and various plan views show how the smart symbol currently looks.

The program immediately inserts the finished smart symbol in the opening. You can also save it and retrieve it later.

• A window or door opening in a wall is required.

To create smart window or door symbols

1. Click Smart Window and Door Symbols (How).
   

   Activate Smart Window and Door Symbols in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Architecture Basic: Walls, Openings, Components

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   Basic: Walls, Openings, Components

2. Click in the opening for which you want to model a smart symbol.

   The opening’s parameters are copied.

3. Enter the parameters as required in the Smart Window and Door Symbols dialog box.
   Work step by step.
   • Start by defining the frame; the relevant dialog box opens automatically.
   • Then, define the vertical and horizontal members etc.,
   • or click Catalog and select one of the styles provided.
   • The field being defined is highlighted (using a red border) in the 3D view. To activate a field for definition, just click it with the mouse.
   • You can see the current status of the smart symbol in plan view below the 3D view. You can change the preview by switching between Reference scale and Drawing type. Click Def.. to specify how the smart symbol displayed is to change with the scale and drawing type.
4. Click after each step:
   Allplan creates and displays the component you just defined.

   Note: In the case of double windows, you can specify whether the elements are to be created on the inside or outside.

   Note: Click to finish a component and move on to the next component.

   If you click Undo, you can undo the changes you have made step by step.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to define additional elements of the smart opening symbol.
6. Define the pen, color and surface of the elements.
7. When the smart symbol is complete, click OK to confirm your entries.

   This inserts the smart symbol in the opening.

8. Click Attrib in the input options to assign attributes to the smart symbol.
   

   You have the following options:

   • Click Window objects or Door objects to open the Window objects or Door objects attribute form, which comes with Allplan. Using this form, you can enter attributes such as position, material of frame, frame type, door leaf, price and so on.
   • You can assign the user-defined attributes Text 1 to Text 5, the variables V6 to V9 and other attributes to the smart symbol.
   • Using Object attributes, you can enter the attributes as you would in the Attributes task area.
9. Click Label in the input options to place a label for the smart symbol.
   This tool works just like the Label tool.
10. You can set a new reference point for the smart symbol to define the position of the smart symbol within the window opening. The exterior side of the window opening is displayed.
    Click a side of the window. Once you have found the correct position, right-click to confirm.

    

    Note: The reference point is particularly important for smart symbols with casements and door leaves, as the position of the smart symbol in the opening also defines the opening direction.

    Tip: Increase the reference scale (status bar) to, say, 1:20. This is the scale at which the position of the casement is displayed in plan view. You can also zoom in on the smart symbol in isometric view.

11. If you want, you can save the new smart symbol in the smart symbol library. The appropriate dialog box is displayed automatically. Select the desired path and enter a name for the smart symbol in the dialog line.
12. For smart door symbols: Position the door swing symbol.

    You can adjust the position of the smart symbol in the door opening to the swing symbol.

13. Repeat steps 2 to 12 to draw more smart symbols. Otherwise, press ESC to quit the tool.

Tip: You can use to save intermediate results to the smart symbol library.

Tip: Elevation view, isometric view and animation show the opening symbols of window casements or door leaves of all smart symbols created with Smart Window and Door Symbols. You can show or hide the opening symbols using the Smart symbol foil A option in Show/Hide.
