Task area 2D Objects

You can use this tool to draw lines or polylines.

To draw a line

1. Click Line (How).
   

   Activate Line in one of the following ways

   • Actionbar:Role Draft Task Design Task area 2D Objects

   • Menu bar: Create Draft

   • Keyboard: CTRL+L

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   Draft

   Site Plan

2. Specify whether you want to draw individual lines or a polyline.
   • Individual lines
     After having entered the start point and end point of a line, you draw a new line.
   • Polyline
     The end point of the first line segment serves as the start point of the next line segment.
3. You can apply symbols to the start point and end point of the line or draw the line as a pattern line.
   

   You can apply start symbols and end symbols to various 2D elements. To do this, you can use the Properties palette - Element area.

   • Select the symbol you want to use and define its size in millimeters.
   • Decide whether you want to apply a start symbol or an end symbol or both symbols by selecting the relevant the check boxes.
   • While drawing, you can change the symbol or switch it off at any time.

   Tip: When you draw a polyline, it is advisable to activate the start symbol and to leave the end symbol inactive until you draw the last line segment. This way, you can avoid duplicate symbols.

4. Define the start point and end point of the line.
   Use the tools in the dialog line and on the shortcut menu.
   

   The dialog line provides the following tools and options, helping you draw lines and polylines.
   

   Icon	Tool	Use
   	No icon pressed in	The line can be drawn at any angle. This is the default setting.
   	Enter at right angles	The line can be drawn only at right angles to the current system angle.
   	Enter using cursor snap	The line can be drawn only at specific angles.
   15.00	Cursor snap	Define the cursor snap angle here (only possible when is turned on).

   

   • Click the point.
   • Align to points using the linear snap function and click the point.
   • Define the point by making entries in the dialog line.

   Tip: The shortcut menu and dialog line provide tools and options to assist you in the process of entering points. For more information, see Tools and Options.

   Tip: When you press and hold down the SHIFT key after you have placed the first point, Allplan places additional points so that they are always orthogonal (unless Enter at right angles or Enter using cursor snap is selected in the dialog line).

   Tip: You can undo the entries you have made step by step by clicking Back in the Input Options.

5. Draw more lines or line segments or press ESC to quit the tool.

Note: When you use the Line tool to draw a polyline, each line segment is a separate entity that can be modified independently of the others. All line segments you draw in one go get the same group number. Consequently, the polyline is an entity group, which can be addressed and modified as a whole.
To draw lines consisting of a single entity, use the Polyline tool. For more information, see Drawing lines.

An entity group is a group of elements which can be addressed as a whole. Polylines constructed in one step, for example, or symbols are entity groups. A group can be addressed as a whole by clicking one of the elements in the group with the middle mouse button and then left mouse button. Alternatively, select and hold the Shift key and click the element. Elements can be combined into an entity group even while being created (with the Assign Group Number tool) or later (with the Modify Format Properties tool).
