Measure Angle

Task area Measure

You can use this tool to measure the angle between two lines (2D or 3D) or the angle between two planes. The angle is measured in a counter-clockwise direction.

To measure an angle

1. Click Measure Angle.

   Or

   Click Measure (How) and then Angle.

   

   Activate Measure in one of the following ways

   • Actionbar:Task area Measure

   • Menu bar: Tools

   • Keyboard: CTRL+ALT+M

   • Toolbar: Default
2. Enter the angle you want to measure in one of the following ways:
   • Specify three points that define the angle.
   • Click 2 lines between which the angle is to be measured.

     The following values are displayed:

   • A: This value displays the angle between two lines when these are in the XY plane.
   • A’: This value is the opposite angle of A.
   • W2D: This value shows the angle between the sides of an angle projected to the horizontal plane.
   • W3D: This value shows the angle between two 3D lines in space
   • DIH: The first time an angle is measured, the DIH parameter (the dihedral angle between two planes) shows the angle between the XY plane and the plane that was defined by the measured line. If you measure more angles, it shows the angle between the current plane and the one defined with the previous measurement.
3. Do the following:
   • Click Set precision to specify the decimal places for the values returned. The values are rounded off accordingly.
   • Click to place the measurement result as text (only possible if you have not selected the measurement tool while another tool is active).
   • Click one of the values to use it for a tool.
   • Click and then, in the dialog box, click a value to copy it to the Clipboard.
   • Click OK to measure another element.
   • Click Cancel to quit the measurement tool.
