Stretch Entities, subdivide or tilt surface

Stretching 3D entities may result in distorted surfaces. You can specify how a distorted surface is to be handled: Subdivide surface or Tilt surface

Initial situation

Some of the edge points of a cylinder’s top surface are to be modified and stretched upwards.

Result with ‘Subdivide surface’

The top surface of the cylinder is subdivided.

Result with ‘Tilt surface’

The top surface of the cylinder is tilted so that it goes through the modified points; the other sides of the cylinder are adjusted accordingly. The other elements (numbers of edges, corners and vertical surfaces) stay the same.
