Divide element

Module(s): Draft + Site Plan

You can use the Divide Element tool to divide an existing element or a line that you enter into a number of equal segments. Point symbols are placed at the division points.

To divide an existing element

1. Click Divide Element (How) or Divide Element (How).
   

   Activate Divide Element in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Create Terrain Site Plan

   • Palette: Tools Create area in the following module(s):

   Site Plan

   • Configuration: Landscaping/Urban Planning Site Plan flyout
   

   Activate Divide Element in one of the following ways

   • Menu bar: Modify Draft

   • Palette: Tools Modify area in the following module(s):

   Draft

2. Define the parameters for the division in the Input Options:
   • Specify whether you want to divide the Selected element in its entirety or a Part of the selected element.
   • Click Select point symbol to choose a division symbol in the Draft module or to open the site plan-specific point definition in the Site Plan module.
     

     Select the symbol you want to use in the dialog box.
     Click to match an existing point symbol or terrain point.
     To exclude the point symbol from being displayed, click Off.

   • Specify the size of the selected point symbol in the corresponding box.
3. Click the element you want to divide. When set to Part of selected element, specify the section by clicking the start and end points.
   

   • Click the point.
   • Align to points using the linear snap function and click the point.
   • Define the point by making entries in the dialog line.

   Tip: The shortcut menu and dialog line provide tools and options to assist you in the process of entering points. For more information, see Tools and Options.

   Note: When you click points outside the element, the points on the element that are perpendicular to the points you clicked are used.

4. Enter the number of divisions in the dialog line and press ENTER to confirm.

   The divisions are created (as point symbols).

To divide an imaginary line

1. Click Divide Element (How) or Divide Element (How).
2. Define the parameters for the division in the Input Options:
   • Click Select point symbol to choose a division symbol in the Draft module or to open the site plan-specific point definition in the Site Plan module.
   • Specify the size of the selected point symbol in the corresponding box.
3. Define the line by entering two points.
4. Enter the number of divisions in the dialog line and press ENTER to confirm.

   The divisions are created (as point symbols).
